CO-CREATE IS A CITIZEN-LED INITIATIVE. WE AIM TO EMPOWER, INSPIRE, AND ACTIVATE POSITIVE CHANGE.

This is a project made by every-day citizens. We’d like to change the whole world but we’re starting outside our front door and improving our own neighbourhoods first. We’re planning a big greening day in May 2020 and would love for you to join in!

    POSITIVE CHANGE, TOGETHER

Co-Create is a community hub filled with knowledge and guidance aimed at greening our environment. It’s powered by individuals who have an interest in creating change on a local level.

    OUR GOALS

To make sure we get things done, we’ve put our most important goals here for you.

    FOOD GARDENS

We have a number of knowledgable, experienced ambassadors who lack the means. We’re helping them get started, who in turn share their skills.

    POSITIVE ACTION

As fellow co-creators, we’re aiming for a healthier, happier world by getting involved in positive change together.

    CREATE TEMPLATE

As we navigate the challenges ourselves, we’re producing a free template and toolset for all communities to use to improve their own neighbourhoods.

    CONNECT PEOPLE

Our vision is to connect citizens with all the inspiring projects and services offered by City, local organizations and individuals. We want to bridge the gap and remind us that we as individuals can make real change.

THE POWER TO GROW YOUR OWN.

It has been proven and well documented that people who are surrounded by green and are connected to nature are healthier and happier.

Our vision is to empower people especially in urban environments with the ability to grow their own food and add greenery which nourishes the body and enriches the mind.

Our key message is to promote a circle of sharing knowledge, skills, tools and materials between communities in order to achieve our vision. It’s important to realise that each individual has a valuable part to play in enabling self-sovereignty.

    Where do I start?

There are many ways to get involved, and it all depends on what you can offer. You may choose to donate time or materials, or you can start growing cuttings to distribute. We’ve partnered with Soil for Life – a gardening hub based in Constantia – where gardeners can find the helpful advice and materials they need to get going.

School teacher Derek Oxlee shows you how to make Spekboom planters

A “planter” is a small plant or tree cutting prepared for planting again. The idea is to use biodegradable containers and fill them with soil and a plant cutting to give it the best change of taking root and surviving.

    HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

    USE WHAT YOU HAVE

Start growing indigenous cuttings from your garden. Make little planters to donate, which will be transplanted into the bare areas of our broader community.

    START GROWING FOOD

Grow your own food, and /or grow seedlings to donate to our ambassadors in vulnerable communities to help them start their own food gardens.

    DONATE

There are many ways to donate: Money is always welcome because it pays for transporting goods, cell phone data and  general materials. Any gardening materials and equipment you give, will go towards helping our ambassadors get food gardens started in their neighbourhoods.

    SPREAD THE WORD

Get your family involved, get your friends to join. Lets make empowerment & inspiring positive change go viral. Co-Create only works when we work it together!

    Did you know,
you can get a free tree?

That’s right, the City Parks Department will even
bring it to you, dig the hole, plant it and fertilise it!

They will recommend the right species based on your area,
and all you need available is a borehole and enough
space on your verge or inside your property.

To make it easy for you, we’ve put the application form
below. Click the button to download it.

    WE NEED YOU!

We all know that change is urgently needed, and that WE need to activate it. Co-Create is an organisation of everyday people with day jobs, learning, navigating and solving challenges as we go. We believe that each person counts, including you. And that everyone has something they can contribute to better their immediate environment. Now is the time to stand up and be part of a positive change by offering your talent, skills or advice.
